Duties
The Press & Media Coordinator works under the supervision of the Press and Media Specialist or Public Affairs Officer designee. Incumbent monitors Tunisian press and media coverage of issues of importance to the United States. Identifies and advises Mission leadership on strategies for promoting accurate, balanced Tunisian press coverage of U.S. foreign policy and American interests. Correcting misinformation; and countering disinformation. Drafts reporting cables and media reports on issues germane to press freedom and the U.S. profile in Tunisia. Builds productive relationships with press, public relations, government, and media professionals in person and online. Tracks Tunisian public opinion data as it pertains to the Mission?s Integrated Country Strategy (ICS) goals and identifies areas of need for additional polling, analysis, and research. Builds productive relationships with press and media professionals and production staff in person and online. Is responsible for preparation and dissemination of U.S. Embassy Tunis media products, logistics coordination for off-site and in-house media events, and suggesting and establishing professional relationships with priority media venues for U.S. Embassy Tunis messaging effectiveness. Serves as the principal back-up to the Press & Media Specialist.

Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in a media outlet, think tank, university, NGO, international organization, foreign embassy, government office or corporation is required, with responsibility for public relations, public affairs, journalism, communications, marketing, managing public relations, outreach events, press conferences, and other media interactions as significant parts of the job.


JOB KNOWLEDGE:


Detailed knowledge of U.S. foreign policy objectives and American interests in Tunisia, especially as they apply to press and media professionals, outlets, and online publications is required. Comprehensive understanding of Tunisian press/media institutions and professional journalism standards and practices, as well as trends in audience preferences for information consumption (print, TV, radio, online) is required. Must have an understanding of communication trends in the region and internationally as they affect the Tunisian information landscape and must be familiar with influence patterns in information flow. Knowledge of marketing techniques, market analysis and audience analytics in Tunisia. Understanding of U.S. historical, political, economic, social, and cultural forces that shape U.S. foreign policy are all required and of U.S. press and media standards, norms, and practices. Detailed knowledge of DOS PD engagement tools, and the policies and procedures required for each.

Education Requirements:
Mandatory: Bachelor?s Degree in Journalism, Communications, International Relations, Political Science, Economics, or local equivalent is required.

Evaluations:
LANGUAGE: Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing English, French and Arabic is required. This will be tested.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES Optional: Must have excellent communication/Interpersonal skills, strong event and management skills, excellent analytic skills an the ability to identify, predict and continually asses attitudes of press and media outlets and information consumers across a wide range of thematic policy areas is required. Very good keyboarding and data entry skills are required, excellent familiarity with electronic discovery tools, in particular the Internet, and standard information retrieval practices and procedures are required. Must be available to travel throughout Tunisia to support Mission press and media engagement activities.

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Tunis, Tunisia may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
